  14. X-men, Age of Apocalypse: Scott/Alex.
  15. X-men animated series: Rogue/Gambit. I cut my teeth on this as a baby.
  16. DCverse: Bruce/Dick. There is just no doubt about this. I'm convinced that even if Bruce was too ornery to actually ever throw it to him, Dick would jerk off about it regularly and at the top of his teenage lungs at the Wayne Mansion.
  17. DCverse: Bruce/Cassandra Cain This is like the even scarier sequel to the first. It's like how Children of the Corn 2 was much scarier than Children of the Corn? THE CHILDREN ARE EVEN MORE FRIGHTENING NOW.
  18. DCverse: Bruce/Clark
  19. Star Wars: Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan, holy God. OT8.
  20. Star Wars: Anakin/Obi-Wan, surprisingly enough. Ewan McGregor singlehandedly sold me on the depth of Obi-Wan's devotion to his stupid apprentice in RotS. He loved that boy, he loved that boy, he loved that damn boy, and Anakin just has it in the worst way for Obi-Wan. Nevertheless, when I try to think of actual Anakin/Obi-Wan and not Anakin slinking around in a torrent of manic-ragic infatuation, my head just bends and starts doing that Warp 10 stuttering approach from Star Trek.

[livejournal.com profile] hidingthestars and I RP Summerscest, man. SO GOOD.
From: [identity profile] rhoddlet.livejournal.com
SO GOOD. AND SO WRONG.

And for a period of time, I RP'd a whole, whole lot of crazy teenage Jean who spent a lot of time making the exact expression in your icon. She'd had Scott adn the Professor entirely to herself for two years! And now there were all these bitches who were coming into the mansion and trying to take her man!

Maybe this explains my extreme allergic reaction to Emma/Scott.
From: [identity profile] stoptocheer.livejournal.com
I love her expression in this icon, my god. :D She gets SO JEALOUS in Evolution, it's fabulous. And Scott is all WHAT? and she's like KJLDSFLKJHFLASKDHF I AM NOT JEALOUS, OKAY and then she storms off and he's secretly all :D!.

I have an extreme allergic reaction. *TWITCHES* Have you seen the latest HoM? Scott finds out he's married to Emma and throws up. :D

I just love Jean/Scott. Their psionic bond. The way they went to Alaska to start a family, pre-The Twelve. Raising Cable in the futureverse. The fact HE DREAMED OF HER IN THE ORPHANAGE. Their vows. The whole epic nature of their romance. The scene on the plateau, of course. Jean and Cable going off to find Scott when he was possessed. Charles telling Jean that she must love Scott with all her heart. Scott's shy holding back in the early days. Jean having all these boys fawn over her, but only loving Scott. The way she makes fun of him all the time! Pulling him in to fight on the Astral Plane when they're trying to save Nathan from the TO virus, because the two of them are practically one, and they have the strongest bond of all.

And anyway, Joss Whedon has said, re: S/E, that "every man has to fall for the wrong woman once". ONCE. And she's WRONG for him. (Plus, uh, Joss? Huge fanboy for S/J. This bodes well. :D)
From: [identity profile] rhoddlet.livejournal.com
See, I've had much less experience of canon X-men than you have. My rabid espousal is based on the Essentials, the Ultimates, 1602, the Millar run of New X-men, a few cracktastic episodes from the eighties including the one where THEY GET MARRIED AND IS TOTALLY TREASURED IN MY SWEATY LITTLE HART, and the Age of Apocalypse. So I've heard about most of what you're talking about, but goddamn, you're going to have to point me to, like, the issues where all this WONDERFUL DELICIOUS CRACK happens, exactly.

But yeah. See, the greatness of the canon aside and my raging innerJean notwithstanding, my essential fangirl nature of Scott Summers shows through with S/J. By all accounts, before he arrives at the School, even though he's got all the genetic and emotional qualities to just be the most PERFECT BOY EVER, Scott has had a shite life. It's just a seriously, seriously, seriously shite life, and goddammit, I want his life to be perfect in one respect.

And Jean. Man. When I heard about the dreaming in the orphanage? That was it. The possibilities of seeing through telepathy? The way their leadership styles and goal-driven personalities complement each other? My heart was set on Scott, poor Scott, getting with the girl who is literally the girl of his dreams and living happily after. That would be, after all, THE JUST AND DECENT THING TO HAPPEN BECAUSE CHRIST HIS LIFE HAS SUCKED.

Alas, this is comic land, and it is not to be, so I suffer through many stabs of the heart and the face and God, have you read the Exiles comic where they go to the timeline right before the Phoenix Saga?
From: [identity profile] stoptocheer.livejournal.com
http://pics.livejournal.com/stoptocheer/pic/0001p9p4 <-- that's my comic book collection, man, and it's nearly entirely X-verse. And I have to write a "Scott/Jean Essentials" rec list tonight for [livejournal.com profile] her_endsong, so I'll send it to you as well. My GOD. <3333

You're absolutely right. Scott has, without a doubt, the most disasterous life you could ever possibly imagine. AND IT KEEPS GETTING WORSE AND WORSE. And Jean, god, he just *deserves* her, and they should be together across time and realities. I haven't read that Exiles comic - Exiles is actually one thing I've never even glanced at, alas.

I just. I can't get over my love for S/J. I RP them all the time for [livejournal.com profile] empyreanlost (current Marvel time, Jean returns from the dead, of course - she reverses Scott's mindchange, Scott, upon realising he never consciously chose to be with her, leaves Emma, and they - S&J were married on Monday. <333333). I just keep reading and reading and loving them more and more. The way they shared a soul, shared emotions and thoughts. Constantly. The trust and such deep, deep love.

<333333333333333333, man.

There's this one thread of Exiles where, like. OMG. They jump to the universe where the trials and the big fight on the planet (sorry, it's 8:36 AM and I've had very little sleep and the brainy) with Lilandra and stuff. In this uni, it's the real Jean on the planet, not cloneJean, and jgoidfhgdf.

The serie skinda goes to shit later on, but if you like Scott Summers meta, the first two arcs are pretty good and worth digging up. *is about to leave on vacation, but will dig them up for you when she get sback if you want*

I know that Emma Frost is theoretically cool and awesome and written really well by Joss Whedon or whatever, and Emma/Scott is more emotionally healthy but as far as I am concerned, DLKFJ:LIGHDF. THAT SCENE ON THE PLATEAU. WHERE SHE TAKES OFF HIS GLASSES AND I DO NOT CARE HOW ENDSONG TRIES TO REWRITE THAT STUFF AND GOD.

Also, Scott/Xavier, yes. I'm probably reading too much Essential X-Men and whatever, but man. Xavier is the dude who found him, brought him in off the streets, gave him a home, an education, and depending on which version you read, some degree of real control over this insanely destructive power. I don't care how strong and tough you are -- there's going to be some massive emotional dependence/incestyness there.

And we know that Xavier isn't exactly the most ethically perfect of guys. So.

*added Alex/Scott from AoA, by the way, despite the AWFUL hair*

Date: 2005-08-12 06:20 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] stoptocheer.livejournal.com
No, no no, I can't stand Emma/Scott and dude, they're not emotionally healthy at all. I mean - she lets him pretend that she's Jean during sex. Uh, guys. (Or as Scott says, "we're so screwed up".) THAT SCENE IS JUST, WHOA. The fact remains that Scott chose Jean - and the Phoenix made him choose Emma. Nuff said. :D (And man, my choice for Jean/Scott moment of amazingness - Search for Cyclops, when she tears Apocalypse's essence out of him. The speech she makes.)

Hmm. I've never seen the slash potential between them - father and son, without a doubt. But I'm such a sucker for how close they are. Have you seen the old-old-oldschool stuff, when like, they read the paper together every morning, and Scott falls asleep with his head in Xavier's lap, etc? Gorgeous. I think there's huge emotional dependence, at least on Scott's behalf. :D

Oh god, the hair.
From: [identity profile] rhoddlet.livejournal.com
. . . actually, I do have to ask you for the lines and issue numbers again. This, I have to see. I've read the Essentials and the vvvvv beginning stuff, but I don't recall that particular stuff with the HEADS and the LAPS and so forth.

See, the arguments that I usually hear about Emma/Scott being more healthy are ones that you've probably heard too -- 1) Scott/Jean is a "childhood" thing, and Scott/Emma is the grownups and 2)Scott/Jean is fundamentally unsound because of the reliance on the psionic link. It depends on this false, telepathic sense of intimacy as opposed to "real" intimacy. When that telepathic bond breaks down, they go kaput. Scott/Emma is better because Emma doesn't just give him the could shoulder when they have problems.

Also because, um, she can keep her vagina to herself and doesn't go ho'ing it around, at least not yeat God, let me tell you how much that shit with Jean made me want to beat my head into the wall.

Ultimately, in the end, I guess I can see how people prefer Emma/Scott or whatever. It is not, however, my flavoring of choice, food group, general nutritional methodology, etc. JUST LET ME BLOW THE DIAMOND BITCH UP AND GET BACK TO MY REGULARLY SCHEDULED PROGRAM PLZZZZZZ

Endsong, man. Is the crack that I can't bear to ignore but can't bear to rationally process.
From: [identity profile] stoptocheer.livejournal.com
I'll hook you up with some numbers and things. I'll try and refind the head-in-lap-thing (which in the interest of fairness, I should point out is father/son symbology - it's the last thing Scott remembers of Corsair before the plane crash, falling asleep with his head in his lap *g*) - it's in one of my flatmate's issues. :D *will CLEARLY have to reread everything*

Yeah - I've heard that first one, though not the second. And what the HELL, Emma doesn't give him the cold shoulder when they have problems? Buh? I... what? Emma's happier than Jean to let him bottle things. Jean's the one who always >:0ed at him and made him actually tell her what was wrong, a lot of the time. In NXM, especially, when she just dressed him down for being self-centred. And the fact remains that Scott. Was. Mindchanged. Into. Being. With. Emma. Gah.

And omg, I may have to quote you on my userinfo for that part. :D!

Endsong... has... some good moments. The Phoenix saying that Jean longs for Scott. Scott pretending that Emma is Jean. The final moment of goodbye between Scott and Jean - the let me see your eyes, where I think it's pretty obvious that they're still all *floaty hearts* about each other, and always will be. But it felt too much like a HEY LOOK SCOTT/EMMA IS GREAT bandwagon for my taste.

so unholily rambly omfg.

It's always hard to talk about one pairing v. another when one pairing has been running for about 30000 years and has been written by sixty jillion people. It's even harder when one of thos characters is Jean Grey -- I mean, Scott gets shafted on characterization a lot, but at least he's consistently characterized as "uptight" or "asshole." Jean doesn't even get a fixed adjective. She's defined, instead, as the nexus of a whole bunch of relationships, and um, she's kinda characterized as anything from the biggest hobag to ever sprout two legs to being frigid to being a saint to . . . well, you know.

Whereas Emma has a much more limited history. She was an evil baddie, and now she's not. She was a hobag, and she's still kind of a hobag, but she's in love with Scott and a teacher.

Anyways.

I think what people are referring to re: the bottling up and stuff is, like, mostly based on the New X-men. Scott and Jean are having serious motherfucking issues -- Scott can't talk to her about, like, anything, whereas Emma is practically banging down the walls of his brain, trying to get him to dish to her.

There's also that part from Phoenix Endsong (issue 2? all I know is that it's the issue I read and screamed AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH PAINNNNNNNNNNNNNNNn becuase it features them in bed and them re-enacting that plateau scene and God, let me just tell you the shitfit I threw right there because "your beams won't hurt me, Scott." HELLO? They're concussive force beams, you cunt writers, not some kind of LASER BEAM; they shoulda torn her arms from their sockets or, at their very least, flipped that bitch head over teakettle, welcome to the laws of PHYSICS for this REALITY and omg longest parenthetical ever) where Scott curls up against her and says something like the fact that she'd keep after him and talk to him is why he loves her.

And you know. I can see this, in threads besides the ones that prominently feature E/S. Jean has a much more refined sense of personal space and privacy. Emma doesn't. It's the fundamental Essence d'Emma, whereas Jean is the chick who went nuts because she kept hearing other people's voices in her head. And like, in the original stories at the very beginning, right? The swirling angst-pits from the very beginning where Jean was like OMG I CANNOT TELL SCOTT MY LOVE FOR HIM :/ :/ :/ and Scott is like WAAAAAAAAAAAH SHE'LL NEVER LOVE THE FREAK WITH THE RED EYES :( :( :( They don't get toghet for, like, umpty billion years in the original because of communicatoin issues.

The best argument I've heard about communication-issue S/E v. S/J is that it's fundamentally fux0red because of the role that Jean has as Scott's dream-girl. She's, like, a standard that he has to live up to, and what with the way Scott is all about DOING THE RIGHT THING and LIVING UP TO EXPECTATIONS, I can totally grasp why he'd feel an almost pathological need to shut her out. I think it's fixable and, in their better times, Scott isn't so demented about Jean, but.

Goddamn, I love S/J.

What's an OT8? Is it an OT-infinity, but sideways?

And what about canon plausibility in Cloud/Sephiroth? Is it that it's so implausible that it could never happen but you ship it anyway, or that it's so plausible and fuck those bitches who don't realise it? Just idle curiosity...

*writes you thesis*

Date: 2005-08-12 06:51 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] rhoddlet.livejournal.com
It's a variation of OT3, which I'm given to understand is OTP taken to such a level of intensity that it becomes plebey. And, um, my love of Obi-Wan/Qui-Gon is a deeply, profoundly powerful plebeifying force such that I felt I had to invent a brand-new acronym on the spot for it. I'd been thinking of it merely as OT-SOME NUMBER GREATER THAN 3 AND HEY 8>3!, but OT-infinity works too.

When I'm feeling rational about Cloud/Sephiroth, it's "look, why is it so implausible that originalCloud hooked up with Sephiroth at some point and had serious amounts of superkinky, superhot subordinate/superior sex that then gains additional emotional resonance in light of later events?" When I'm feeling really rational about Cloud/Sephiroth, I realize just how far outside of canon that kind of relationship would be (i.e.: canon implausible), and I feel embarrassed that I want something that "could never happen."

Somewhere between just feeling rational and feeling really rational, though, it's PLAUSIBLE AND FUCK YOU BITCHES AND GOD IT HAS SUCH AWESOME HOT PORN/META POTENTIAL! >:O
From: [identity profile] versinae.livejournal.com
I think a lot of problems may have been solved if George Lucas were more aware of the Plebeifying Force and its role in his movie-making. Oh well.

Also, if Cloud/Sephiroth never happened, and Cloud had no interest in him, why the heck did he show up shirtless at the final battle inside Cloud's little messed-up head? Just saying. Besides, if Tifa's figure is canon, then Cloud/Sephiroth must be, because it's way more plausible than her being able to balance (and much less fight) with that thing.

Simon/River is your Firefly pairing of choice? I love you forever, except...

This just like traumatized me for life. I think normal non-old-men tesitcles are gross looking enough, but. Ew! Gah! Don't write out things I can't unread.

And I completely agree with all your DC Batman pairings, especially Bruce/Cass... so much love for that pairing... However, for your X-Men pairings? I wouldn't put Jean with anyone, because we hates her, precious...

Aaaand, the Narnia mention got me thinking, if you're still here when it comes out (you might not be, cause I think it's a Christmas-y release), we should go see that. .. That's kind of a given, though.

I'm all about the Obi-wan/Anakin. If Anakin was not one of the biggest morons ever to grace the big screen, I might have been even more keen, to swooning points even. I don't know what on earth to make of the pairing, but I like it. And heee, Cloud/Sephiroth! If only the fics were so suck-tastic.

Date: 2005-08-12 02:36 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] rhoddlet.livejournal.com
You mean "weren't so sucktastic," right?

And God, Anakin on-screen. Take the good, forget the bad. Take the good, forget the bad. That's my motto -- along with "forget the entire realm of craaaaaaaaaaaaptastic fic that makes me want to purge in the bathroom toilet."

Date: 2005-08-12 05:17 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] penelope-z.livejournal.com
Yes, yes, yes, weren't, and this will teach me to avoid lj before the first cup of coffee. I spent a week reading Cloud/Sephiroth and was amazed when I found one single fic that I sort of okay-liked. The rest, oh god, I wanted to bleach my eyeballs. Any recs possibly?

Anakin. Hm. He did end up quite pretty, I never thought it was possible after AotC, I thought he looked horrible there. Even prettier when evil, so I guess that's something. And he is rather amusing in the whole 'Dark Side is just another teenage temper tantrum away' poutiness, though it also kinda ruined Darth Vader for me. I can't watch the original trilogy without thinking, 'but hah, behind the evil shiny mask, you're just one whiny dumbass.'

Haven't really read much fic, I like thinking of Obi-wan's misguided devotion, and Anakin's unformed, possesive feelings about Obi-wan, but I'm not sure if I want to read about them going at it. Especially not if there are lightsaber metaphors and tantric Force sex and such.

Remius/Sirius (not in a very fandom sense, though, because most of the fics that I read don't agree with the way it is in my head and therefore are WRONG)

So true, sadly. Puppy-shipping should be dark and depresssing, not fluffy bunnies all around.

X-men, 1602: Warren/Scott

So canon it's not even funny, at least from Warren's side.

Star Wars: Qui-Gon/Dooku. Start laughing at me, and I'll cry. I swear to God, I'll cry

Have you actually written this? Because... wow, I love the Jedi and their fucked up pseudo-familial, quasi-incestuous relationships.

i love 1602 warren. holy god.

Date: 2005-08-12 02:43 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] rhoddlet.livejournal.com
Yeah. Like. Post-Marauders S/R is, for me, laden with all kinds of issues and black shit -- I mean, dude. Sirius spent how many years in Akzaban? Lupin's life has sucked for how long? How deeply are the two of them messed up and alienated and, literally, not entirely human? I can understand the impulse to fluff, but in all truth, their relationship is about as fluffy as a fist to the face.

And ;lfkj;glidfh. Qui-Gon/Dooku is the secret, burning pairing of my heart. Everytime a hint of it comes up in roleplay scenes with Dilly, she goes o.o, but man. I'm telling you. There is some fic to be written there. It's the sheer crack of imagining baby Qui-Gon together with the sheer crack of Dooku-before-he-went-really-bad!

1602 Warren actually seemed *aware*, which I have never seen from RealTimeline!Warren.

their relationship is about as fluffy as a fist to the face.

Exactly. But people relentlessly fluff it up.

It's the sheer crack of imagining baby Qui-Gon together with the sheer crack of Dooku-before-he-went-really-bad!

You've seen that comic scan of a scene from when Qui-Gon was a padawan, I take it? The one where he's standing beside Dooku, looking skinny and half-grown and entirely too puppy-cute in a haircut that I always thought was *designed* to look atrocious on *any* human being.

God, if you ever do finish it up, that'll be so much fun.

dgfadsfj I am on my way out the door for a weekend vacation with the parents but NO. I HAVE NOT SEEN THAT SCAN. I am downloading this God-Huge torrent of SW comics, but dlkj;lfihf. Oh my God. Hook me up, if you can? I swear to God that I'll give Dooku/Qui-Gon my best, damndest shot if you do.

Qui-Gon is a surprisingly tractable to being written into patches of cute. He really is.

Marnie uses it as the title picture in her story, Redemption (http://www.elfringham.dsl.pipex.com//StolenOnes/redeemed.html)

It's GOT to be a comic scan, but I have no idea where from. Doesn't Qui-Gon look like a puppy, possibly from some large herding breed? And see, he got that reassuring-hand-on-shoulder habit from Dooku?

Tom/Dumbledore (oh, shut up. wrinkled old man testicles can be cute; they'll just look like naked, sagging wriggly mice or something

Kakashi/Kabuto (oh, it shames and burns, it burns)

The former slightly traumatizes me, but amuses me greatly at the same time. Have you written a Tom/Dumbledore fic? I'd looooove to read it

The latter would be delicious (please write it)

I haven't written Tom/Dumbledore fic, no, because my brain just goes SQUISH whenever I try to think about it. I mean, um, logically Dumbledore was a whole lot younger? But I'm still creeped by the figure of him being all old and venerable and stuff because I'm young and shallow.

And Kakashi/Kabuto. *sighs dreamily* I love Naruto pairings, but I can't write them or even think about them coherently outside of Itachi/his best friend.

What can I say, man? Crazy, canonical emphasis on bloodlines plus all the arrogance that those families possess? It's like a Blue Plate Rhod Special. :D
