Follow-up on this: anybody have links for badass new-ish Harry Potter fic?

And by new-ish, I mean, "Anything posted after 2003."* And by badass, I mean, Death Eaters or shape-shifting or magical theory or the destructive legacy of magical inbreeding or Grindelwald or the House of Black or Tom Riddle as a hungry orphan or Diagon Alley or unicorns or magical wardrobes or Bellatrix, coming to believe in the family tapestry, or Remus Lupin, starving in the years after James and Lily die and before Dumbledore tells him to come back to Hogwarts. You know. Stuff. Harry Potter stuff. That's badass.

* Oh my God, I can't believe that I'm still in fandom.

Run This Town
Jay-Z, Rihanna, and Kanye roll Death Eater style.
All six Harry Potter movies to date.

25.7 MB, MKV container. Right-click to save as, and open in VLC.

Look, [livejournal.com profile] reserve suggested making a Death Eater vid set to this song in January. I haven't been able to stop thinking about it for more than a couple days at a time. It's here. It's done. I could spend the next ten years of my life tinkering with this to make it better and smoother and more wangsty, but I'm quitting this vid. I'm going to go see the Deathly Hallows, and I'm not proud, but loving Tony Stark for two years has changed me, and oh my God, I love Malfoy's little black Regis Philbin suit so much.

SUP EL JAY.

After eight years and a lot of tears, you and I are fucking done. You may have backed off your account deletion shenanigans, but we both know it's only a temporary step in your slow, inexorable slide into further douchitude. I know you probs don't care that I'm dating your cooler, more inclusive relative who can, like, do more shit? But let me put this in terms you can understand: I'm paying an $11 premium to not have to deal with your assholery. I know. $50! A year! And I'll probably end up paying for other accounts, too!

It's more than you were ever able to weasel out of me.

:D

(So, yeah, over at [personal profile] quigonejinn  from now on.  As time and ability permit, I'll start re-working the fic to be hosted over there.)

Cleaning out the LJ. I write everything in the LJ client update window and store it as a private post, so my whole writing life is in one LJ or the other. This is unfinished stuff from various points in the spring/summer of 2005. Separate pieces are separated by horizontal bars.

Naruto stuff. )

Harry Potter stuff. )

X-men. )

And OK. I have no memory of writing over two thousand words of what would probably have been a 5K+ AU far future fic about SUPERMAN of all things, and I could damn well have actually c/p'd this in from somebody. Seriously. If I've stolen somebody else's stuff, tell me, and I'll wipe this off the face of existence.

Alternately watching Earth and looking at the stars. )

This is out of order, but [livejournal.com profile] eponis asked for Lily Evans, Dumbledore, grey eyes, the Grey Lady, and a certain line of Shakespeare. And I wanted to oblige while HP was still rattling around in my head.

PG. Probably canon-wrong six ways to Sunday. )

What can I say? It's hard writing Narutofic when long-haired military hippies and dudes in bicornes take turns eating your soul for the better part of a year and change.

Bit on Naruto, Sasuke, and Itachi for fable. PG-13. May be inconsistent with post-break revelations, and alas, more like an overgrown drabble than proper fic. )

Herriotslash for Liana Goldenquill. The first thing I have written in the first person in, like, five years. And you'll have to excuse how it doesn't fit with Herriot's style at ALL eb;clakjdslifj. I tried, goddammit. I tried. :/ Can I blame the tediousness of the style on my half-assed attempts at that?

From the fics that I'll be writing post-challenge.

The Odd Season. PG-13. )

I am six minutes into the newest episode of Rome, and I just have to say: HOLY GOD I LOVE THIS SHOW. HOLY GOD. HOLY GOD. HOLY GOD. I DO NOT CARE IF WINGED HORSES START FLYING OUT OF POMPEY'S ASS AND NEON SIGNS SPROUT UP ON THE FORUM SAYING "OMG MARCUS IS FINEEEEE."

HOLY SWEET BABY JESUS.

Spoilery snip of dialogue. No, I am not making this up. T_T. )

It gets better after that, of course, but here is the key part: the boy in question OCTAVIAN AHAAHAHA FUTURE AUGUSTUS CAESAR AHAHAHAH OMG. OMG. OMG. I know that means nothing very little to you, so uh, just enjoy the fact that this is the mother and this is the boy. Isn't he pretty? You may recognize him from the Master & Commander movie, I'm told.

The transcript does NO justification to the sheer, howling, amazingness of that scene. You should be watching Rome, people. You need to be watching Rome. It is plentiferously available through various means.

It is dear, dear, dear [livejournal.com profile] stella_belli's birthday today, and well, since she turns into an old CRONE today and since she's always convinced that she isn't all that funny or charming or personable, I thought the best way to rub in the glories of youth past was to post, you know. A v. small sampling of some of the hilarious things that she's said to me in the past year.
Dilly: I'm thinking of [a word] that starts with xeno. Hah.
Rhod: Xenophobia? When he's looking at Jar Jar and like XD?
Dilly: I was like I WISH THERE WAS A DICTIONARY THAT I COULD LOOK AT WHERE THE WORDS WERE ALL IN ALPHABETICAL ORDER INSTEAD OF HAVING TO SEARCH FOR THEM.
Dilly: And then I realized that I'm online too much. )

So, uh, I'm a really big dork who really loves the capture key, and I got my hands on a decent-quality Revenge of the Sith today, and uh. Made a lot of screencaps of the first 24:50 of the movie. My only excuse is that I really, really enjoy capping movies I love. Um.
Screencaps from start to just before the umm, Obi-Wan, we're dangling scene (14MB, 536 pictures)
Screencaps from dangly slash scene to right before Anakin, you're gonna be a daddy! (14MB, 461 pictures)
Not the greatest quality or the biggest pictures, but thorough like anything because it averages out to about one cap/1.5 seconds. Scenes where Ewan McGregor makes entertaining faces, it's a little more; action scenes where I can't cap ANYTHING because everybody is MOVING a little less. And as a warning, some of the caps are blurry and throwaways, but I think I got everything important.

More to follow as I work through the movie. Comments and credit if you use them are v. nice and appreciated, but not necessary because really, all I do is punch the DEL key a lot.

Does this mean that I'm back in fandom these days? the Icon-pairing meme. )

If I had more of a brain, by the way, I would do what [livejournal.com profile] throughadoor does here. Alas, I can't come up with anything near the brilliance of that, so. Just go read it. VARITEK/BRISTOW OMG. <3

PS: Yes, I know, the domain is broken and that the site is down, etc, etc, etc. <3

A pimp and rec for the RPG that's eating my brain these days, and I will swear to you that I don't mod it, that it's even flamewar free and not related to [livejournal.com profile] imperius. In fact it's not even HP related:

Agnates.

If you liked The Island with Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johansson, give it a look. The RPG is an exploration of what the movie might have been: what if the movie hadn't decided to resolve the clone situation by having some kind of ridiculous SHUT DOWN THE HOLOGRAPHIC GENERATORS action plotline? What are the alternate routes to freedom? And what if the clones had to face up to the fact that their freedom was going to doom morally innocent people?

In other words, the RPG is all about what would have happened if the writers of the movie hadn't totally wussed out of all the moral dilemmas of the story and followed up on all those tantalizing leads. What about Jordan's fixation on children? What about the little baby boy she sees when she calls her sponsor? What, exactly, does the cloning legislation of 2015 provide?

I nearly got into a traffic accident yesterday while thinking about the potential for this thing, and yes, for those of you who suspected, yes, I'm playing this lady. Tell me, what gave it away? The fact that you never see her whole face in any of the icons, or the fact there are SECTION BREAKS in her profile?

Star Wars fic is excruciatingly difficult for me to write. I have no voice for it. The characters are not easily manipulated. The canon is enormous and fluid. The storylines that suggest themselves to me come in two sizes: huge and extra-huge, and since I've spent my entire ficwriting career on things of about two thousand words or less, I am about ready to rip my eyes out.

I swear to God. I am never writing for a fandom where I actually give a damn about the characters again.

So with those apologies in mind. Star Wars: Jedi Apprentice, AUfic. Branch event is Qui-Gon and Xanatos on Telos, and um. You know. AU characters. Gen. )
